Beaded bead

I've a lady that has mastered the beaded bead, I say mastered because I have tried time and time again and my beads look nothing like her beads. Her name is Kerrie Slade.

12 piece of jewellery

Had a wake up call yesterday about the number of items of jewellery that I have to make. I know that 12 isn't what is required but I have to make more jewellery.

Who

We design and we construct but who is to say that our designs or piece is not good enough. Who is to say what's what and on what grounds?

Thursday, September 2, 2010

I know I touched on this last year in my research report, the reed dance. I find the reed dance very interesting, it is one of the functions that hasn't been ereased from the Zulu culture and I think that it would be a great place to see all the colourful beadwork.

I must say that its not easy trying to get information from the women that bead or women that do the virgin testing around the time of the reed dance. They have so much to do and meetings to attend but I'm learning that its not a walk in the park to get everything and everyone ready for those three day.

Pen and paper

I've been sitting here for a while now, trying to get some ideas together. I think I understand why lectures got upset with us if we had doodles on our drawing books and no ideas that sprung from them. All I have on this page are doodles and I've just realised that, that means having nothing. I've been hitting brick walls or dead ends with my research, its (research report) not all about the history of beads but its about what I'm doing. What am I doing?

Why beadwork

I was asked why do I love beadwork or what is it about beads or beadwork that I like or love so much and funny enough I couldn't answer immediately, it took me some time to come up with an answer.
I said I like the stories that are behind them, the next question was, "what stories?"
I think I've thought it through and it is the meaning of the beadwork and the reason why they are worn that interests me.
